Author Janet Wright was born in Cincinnati, Ohio the first of three
daughters. Due to the tragic death of her father, she grew up in a household
of all women, an experience in interesting juxtaposition to the one
she would later have as the only female in a house of five males. In
Cincinnati, Ms. Wright (then Ms. Bayer) began her higher education at
the University of Cincinnati, studying business administration, which
she later changed to a major in English Literature. Janet remained in
Cincinnati until she married Dr. James J. Wright of Indiana. The couple
spent the first two years of their marriage in Saigon, Vietnam, where
Dr. Wright served in the army as Medical Director of the United States
Dispensary. Ms. Wright became assistant to the director of Pan American
World Airlines for Southeast Asia. While in this position, she and her
husband had the opportunity to travel around the world and experience
many fascinating cultures. They also fostered a war orphan, who is now
residing in Missouri, the proud mother of two children of her own. Upon
returning to the states, Dr. Wright became Medical Director of the Community
Mental Health Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. For the next seventeen
years, Janet oversaw the upbringing of the couple’s four sons,
finished her graduate work in English Literature, did volunteer work
tutoring in local schools and held positions of leadership in parent
organizations. Eager to put into practice all she had learned about
academia, Ms. Wright accepted a position teaching English literature
to upper school students at Park Tudor Preparatory School in Indianapolis.
She held this position for eighteen years. Ms. Wright resides in Indianapolis,
where she continues to relate to widows and their challenges as well
as pursue her interests in reading, traveling, theatre, music and genealogy.
